The Chronological History of Ty Garner Tlačiť E-mail

Ty Garner

Ty Garner began life as a busker working the streets of London, Paris and Amsterdam playing folk, ragtime and blues styles of music before settling back in his home town of Mansfield where he established himself as one of the leading talents on the British rhythm and blues scene. Tirelessly, Ty led a dual life as a bandleader and a triple shift factory operative working hard to secure his place in the lineage of the British blues tradition. His outstanding performance at the Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival earned him instant recognition as one of the most exciting and original blues artists to emerge in recent times:

"Beautiful subtle imaginative electric blues guitar playing."

Neil Davidson, Scots Blues News

Entering full-time music education Ty secured a place on the prestigious BA (Hons) Jazz Studies at Leeds Music College in West Yorkshire and studied guitar under Mike Walker one of the most sought-after players in the music business. After graduating, Ty visited a friend who played in the Monte Carlo Big Band in Monaco. It was this experience that led him to a chance meeting with Mahavishnu John McLaughlin prompting Ty to focus wholeheartedly on the European continent where he has spent subsequent years developing a reputation amongst the blues and jazz fraternity in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland.

Ty Garner Film Strip 1

Ty's "guitar based blues roots" are steeped in the oral tradition of the Mississippi Delta country blues singers Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Ty's "jazz edge" derives from Texan guitar genius T-Bone Walker, St. Louis legend trumpeter Miles Davis and Memphis guitar star BB King. In addition to this blues and jazz synthesis, Ty's "psychedelic" influence comes from the transatlantic generation of guitar players Mike Bloomfield, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and Peter Green.

"Ty's contemporary approach to playing the blues is as fresh as it is unique."

Peter Green
