The Chronological History of Ty Garner Drukuj Email

Ty GarnerTy Garner began life as a busker working the streets of London, Paris and Amsterdam playing folk, ragtime and blues styles of music before settling back in his home town of Mansfield where he established himself as one of the leading talents on the British rhythm and blues scene. Tirelessly, Ty led a dual life as a bandleader and a triple shift factory operative working hard to secure his place in the lineage of the British blues tradition. His outstanding performance at the Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival earned him instant recognition as the most exciting and original blues artist to emerge since the 1960s:

"Beautiful subtle imaginative electric blues guitar playing."

- Neil Davidson, Scots Blues News

Entering full-time music education Ty secured a place on the prestigious BA (Hons) Jazz Studies at Leeds Music College www.lcm.ac.uk in West Yorkshire and studied guitar under Mike Walker www.mike-walker.co.uk one of the most sought-after players in the music business. After graduation Ty visited a friend who played in the Monte Carlo Big Band in Monaco. It was this experience that led him to a chance meeting with John McLaughlin www.johnmclaughlin.com prompting Ty to focus wholeheartedly on the European continent where he has spent subsequent years developing a reputation amongst the jazz and blues fraternity in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Ty Garner Film Strip 1

Ty's "guitar based blues roots" are steeped in the oral tradition of the Mississippi Delta country blues singers Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Ty's "jazz edge" derives from Texan guitar genius T-Bone Walker and Memphis guitar star and bandleader BB King www.bbking.com. In addition to this blues and jazz synthesis, Ty's "psychedelic" influence comes from the transatlantic generation of guitar players Mike Bloomfield, Carlos Santana www.santana.com, Jimi Hendrix and Peter Green:

"Ty's contemporary approach to playing the blues is as fresh as it is unique."

- Peter Green
